National Archives

To assist you in requesting and receiving service records from the National Archives, we recommend to you Kelley Bevis who lives in Washington, DC. A few years ago, Kelley started conducting family research at the National Archives, and has been hooked on researching ever since. She recently completed her Masters Degree in Public Health from George Washington University and is headed to law school this fall.

As you may know, receiving service records from the National Archives after making a request can take months. Kelley can speed up this process. Although she has a full time job, she takes time to visit the Archives during its extended-hour periods, and pulls and copies files for people for a modest fee. Starting in mid-April, when weekly extended-hours are reinstated, she will visit the Archives once a week. She primarily works with Civil War records but also with records for the War of 1812, Spanish American War and the American Revolutionary War.

The Archives currently charges $75 for a full Union soldier Civil War pension file; Kelley charges $45. This includes the research and pulling of the file, copies up to 40 pages, and return postage. If the file goes over 40 pages, Kelley asks for 30 cents per extra page.

For service records for Union and/or Confederate soldiers, Kelley charges $30, which includes the research and pulling of the file, copies up to 20 pages, and return postage. If you order multiple files, Kelley will provide a discount.

The turnaround time will generally not be longer than 2-3 weeks, which is a good deal faster than that of the Archives!

Kelley requests a 50% deposit with the balance due when the files have been prepared and are ready to ship. She accepts payments by check, money order or through Pay-Pal.

Kelley performs this service to earn extra money to help offset school costs, and because she loves doing it!  If you have Kelley research and send you your requested information, she can deliver it faster, and at a lesser cost.
