You are Invited to Attend the
20th Anniversary Presentation of the
Sarasota, Florida Civil
War Symposium
January 18–21, 2012 at the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel, Sarasota,
Florida
Registration is on a first-come,
first-served basis.
Maximum enrollment is 150 people.
How times flies! It was January 21, 1993 when we
first set foot in Sarasota to give an unorthodox idea a try – a Civil War
symposium, away from any Civil War sites, in a beach front setting. Would
anyone come, and would they like it? Well, thanks to a splendid cadre of
historians, many of whom have appeared often at Sarasota since that first time,
and thanks to our many repeat attendees, including several who have attended
every time, the idea has worked fabulously well.
The
symposium, from the beginning, has enjoyed robust attendance and hatched many enduring
friendships. We’ve learned a lot, had countless wonderful times, and been
treated royally by the good folks at our base camp - the Helmsley Sandcastle
Hotel. So, as the 20th Annual Sarasota Civil War symposium
approaches, we plan to celebrate with:
· an especially star-studded
faculty
· Tom and Jan Broadfoot and their extensive array of Civil War books
· a 20th Birthday
Party on Wednesday night, January 18
· a special commemorative program and gifts for all registrants.
This 20th Annual Civil War Symposium is part of an eleven-day
history extravaganza in Sarasota, the other elements of which are:
· the Ed Bearss Florida History
Tour, January 22-24 - Indians, Forts & Civil War – visiting sites in
and around St. Augustine.
· the National Conference on
World War I, January 25 (8:30 AM-4:30 PM) – with Rob Dalessandro, Ed
Bearss, Carlo D’Este, Michael Knapp, Edward Lengel and Jerry Morelock
· the 7th Annual
Sarasota World War II Conference, January 25 (7:00 PM) –January 28 (12:00
N) – with Rob Dalessandro, Harold Baumgarten, Bob Baumann, Ed Bearss, Roger
Cirillo, Carlo D’Este, Bruce Gamble, Rob Havers, Michael Knapp, Darren Moran, Jerry
Morelock and Craig Symonds
So
make your plans now in join us on the warm, white sands of Lido Beach and environs for one, two, three or all four of these unforgettable adventures
in American history!
