You are Invited to Attend
the
18th Annual Sarasota, Florida
Civil
War Symposium
January
20–23, 2010
We invite you to join us for the
18th Annual Sarasota Civil War Symposium. As hotels along the Gulf of Mexico rapidly give way to condos, our host hotel, the Helmsley Sandcastle,
remains a beachfront oasis on the white sands of Lido Beach - where friends
meet annually to deliberate and debate about the Civil War. In late January, as
we relax in the warm breeze and enjoy spectacular views of the Gulf of Mexico,
we will share the company of nine of America’s leading Civil War
historians, including Terry Winschel who will be joining us at Sarasota
for the first time, and Gary Ecelbarger, Joe Glatthaar and Jeff Wert each of whom will be rejoining us after an absence of several years.
Broadfoot Publishing will
again bring plenty of books, including the latest titles, which will be on
display and for sale throughout the symposium. And, as last year, Tom and
Jan Broadfoot will offer free shipping in case you don’t want to lug
a stack of books back home in your car or on the plane.
We have reserved rooms at the Helmsley
Sandcastle Hotel at the nightly rates, single and double, of $115 (Northside or
Courtyard), $135 (Poolside) and $160 (Gulfside). The Helmsley offers 600 feet
of private beach, two outdoor pools and a host of other amenities. We again
expect a full house so act now to reserve your hotel room by calling 800-225-2181, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM and identifying yourself as a registrant for the Civil War symposium.
Also please see information about
the 5th Annual Sarasota World War II Conference, January 27-30. If you
should enroll as a full package attendee for both the Civil War and the World
War II meetings, you will receive a $50 discount which will be deducted from
your World War II conference fee.
In late January, as the
battlefields of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Tennessee lie cold and
still beneath winter frosts, we hope you will
join us on the warm, white sands of Lido Beach, for one or both of these
special adventures in American history.
