Most
students of the battle of Gettysburg have visited such sites as Little Round
Top, the Wheatfield, the Peach Orchard, Culp’s Hill and the fields of Pickett’s
Charge. The CWEA regularly leads tours of these and other well-known sites
at Gettysburg, but on our November 1 tour, designed
for aficionados who have visited practically every nook and cranny of the
battlefield, we will visit sites seldom seen – on and around the
battlefield.
As
of the writing of this post on November
12, 2007, we are selecting
the sites to be visited, and information about them will soon follow. Trust,
please, that the tour will be intriguing.
One
site we’ll visit, we can identify at this time – Sach’s Bridge, built in
1852, shown above. Across this bridge, soon after the battle, part of the Confederate Army passed as it retreated
into Virginia.
Other
sites we’ll visit on the tour will include misplaced monuments, overlooked
graves and sites of skirmishing to the north and west of Gettysburg. You should be well-pleased with the
selection.
Please
feel free to sign up early if you like. A $50 deposit will hold a place.
